"...Why...
...Why did it have to happen this way...
...We were so close...
...and yet...
...It took everything...
...everything...
...everything I had to keep on living...
...It took the thought of you...
...And when I saw you again......
...Why did it happen...
...Why did I have to lose you...
...to fight against you...
...Damn cruel fate...
...And now you're gone forever...
...My love...
...I will join you soon...
...If I can join you in Heaven..."

"No pilot? Thats strange... when I had successfully diced the mech it had... almost well... twitches? Like when you cut the head off something really fast." She thought about it; how is that even possible? "Either way i'll need some repairs on my weapon, we gotta get to the city quickly..." Capricorn ran full speed with boosters activated, which was relativly fast but nothing compared to Raiden

"Let's go!" He made his way easily back to the city, moving over the snow fairly quickly with his giant tires. They were studded and made especially for the snow, since the designers had known the frozen wasteland outside of the energy field would be tough terrain for wheels. Not only that, but they were made of elasto-compressory cells, almost unable to be popped and yet always keeping their pressure. They were good tires, and made the mech an excellent mover, even if he wasn't good with his boosters. But that didn't matter.
Capricorn and Raiden pulled into the city, and made their way carefully towards the garage. There, the mechs could be restocked and repaired, and there was where Ruger could report to his commanding officer about the attack. Arriving at the garage, Ruger carefully made his way out of the cockpit, and then filled the mechanics in on the problems. Low ammo, jammed cannon, missing armor, etc. They went to it right away, working like busy ants all over a sandwich. Not that Ruger knew much about insect or wild life. But he knew what busy people looked like, and these mechanics were busy.
He waited for Keira, to see if she wanted to report to Lieutenant Hardass or if he would have to do it himself.

OOC- Sorry keep forgetting to reply *hits head don wall*
Keira strode up to Ruger, "guess we have to deal with the ass now." The mechanics too, were workin on her mech busily and she was preparing herself to deal with the Lieutenant. "We should see how our hospital friend is doing afterwards."

It was just a matter of minutes before Remy made it back to Mirage, taking her place in the cockpit, and throwing her guns on the floor. She leaned back in her seat, taking deep breaths.. her eyes closed, trying to get her head wrapped around the situation. Five minutes later she was flying, and her head was still not clear.
She knew exactly where she was going before she even switched on the ignition. The one place that remained a constant for her. Normally, she walked there, Mirage too big to fit anywhere, but today she didn't have that choice.. technically she was still on duty....
A nearby building provided cheap parking for the large tech, only a few blocks away. Down a few flights of stairs, and out of the building, Remy walked with her nose slightly in the air, a sort of arrogant confidence. Ten minutes later she was standing outside a wrought iron gate, one of the last remaining in the city. It was locked, but that was alright, the fence was an easy hop over, and Remy knew right where she was going. The ground was purely dirt, packed down so hard it seemed like a real flooring. Stones jutted out everywhere, carved with dates and names that meant nothing to her. Nothing, that is, except the third to last one in the fourth row.
All it said was "Bryn." No dates, no inscription, no "beloved sister in law." The only one in the whole place that didn't even have a last name. Without even glancing at the headstone, Remy took a seat on it, her elbows on her knees, her hands cradling her head. She studied the fabric of her jumpsuit, eyeing a few stains and tears but not really looking at them. Her mind wandered, her brain refusing to stop spinning. How could he have been the man Bryn cared so much about? was all Remy could think. Her neck stiff from being choked, her head pounding with a headache and reoccouring thoughts, the sleep deprivation getting to her. By all accounts, today was a bad day.

Seeing that Keira was making no move to go in first, Ruger sighed. God, he hated doing this....
"Fine then. I guess I'll go first." He grumbled, to which Keira smiled brightly. Softly, he rapped on the door. "Come in." came the curt response.
Ruger opened the door, and stepped into the room. He didn't care if Keira followed or not, he would speak for her if he needed to. "Sir, Pilots Ruger and Keira, Raiden eight and Capricorn three, reporting."
Lieutenant Carter looked down at the paper he was reading, barely even paying attention to them. "Aren't you supposed to be on guard duty, soldier?"
Ruger looked over at Lieutenant Carter, and examined him carefully. He was an unattractive man, in the sense that a hatchet was unattractive. He was all edges and sharp points, everything thin and sleek. His face was shaped like an axe, coming to a point at his nose and sloping backwards, and his hair was crisp and military short. He wore his uniform well, although it was a bit baggy, and he held himself very stiff and solid almost all of the time. And he almost always had a look of irritated disgust on his face.
"Yes sir, but we had a problem. An unexpected attack, sir. The Brothers sent out mechs against us, sir. But..." And here, Ruger hesitated, unsure how to say it.
"But is not an explanation, soldier!" said the Lieutenant, who looked up sharply at him. The look of disgust was on his face again, and his whole body was incensed. It was as if something Ruger said had irritated him intensely, and Ruger knew he was in trouble.
"Sir...the mechs.... They had no pilots, sir."
"NO PILOTS? Were you on some kind of drug, soldier? Were you drinking on the job? Soldier, I will destroy your career if I find there is some hint of falseness in your story. I will destroy you. Are you serious? No pilots?"
Ruger raised his head highly, his eyes staring fixedly above Lieutenant Carter's head, his chin up, his jaw fixed and deliberately set. "No pilots, sir."
The Lieutenant looked, for a single second, a bit shocked. He turned wide eyed, and his look of disgust disappeared. But it only took a second. Then, with a sigh, he groaned and spoke again. "Tell me the story, soldier."
Ruger quickly and efficiently reported the entire encounter with the Lieutenant. He took it all in, even the detailed battle explanation, and a strange look came over his face. A look of concern, a look of confusion....a look of fear. He spoke again.
"That's enough, Ruger. You may go now, and wait until your mech is fully operational before returning to your post. You too, Keira. I'll need to report this to my commanding officer. You're dismissed."
Ruger was only too happy to close the door.
"Well Keira, it seems we're not even going to be given the rest of the day off for this. And did you notice Lt. Hardass seemed...I dunno what the word is....scared? Creeps me out...."
(OOC: Blah, yucky post, I'm not up to it right now.)

Sergeant Lioneye passed them on the way to his own appointment with Lieutenant Carter. "Soldiers, come 'ere..." They cringed and did as they were ordered. "What are you two slackers doing off duty now, hmm?" Again, Ruger accounted for what happened, but Lioneye didn't look shaken at all. "Well, what'd they look like, kids?" His eyebrows raised upon their description. "Well, I'll let you two in on a little secret... those don't look a thing like what Mathers and Kira saw. I didn't believe it, so I checked it out myself. These things looked a lot more natural, like walking rockpiles..." He gave them the hush sign and let them go on their way, Lioneye knocking on Lieutenant Carter's door.

Keira sighed, those mechs could scare anyone; once you know they weren't piloted. They had their own mind, faster reaction times. She had a feeling they were going to run into alot more. As her and Raiden got further from Lioneye she glanced back then looked to Raiden, "today just sucks... I just feel like going to bed." She smirked, "Hardass is going to have to start actually doing things now that we've got new problems on our hands. Unless he figures he can get away with pushing people around and reading reports is going to help. Wonder how well he can pilot?"

Overtake...
Klaxons sounded in everything military. Anyone who could do something about it was notified, leaving the general public uninformed, and so without reason to panic.
"All available units to the southwestern wall, I repeat, all available units to the southwestern wall! Unidentified units approaching Dawnista from the southwest! This is not a drill!"
A priority communications screen opened in the cockpits of Raiden and Capricorn, as well as every other mech pilot. It was Sgt. Lioneye. "Listen up, pilots! We do have uninvited guests approaching our outer walls. They've just broken into our short range scanners and bear no marking or design that we can place. We have reason to believe they are hostile, but to not do anything, ANYTHING to provoke or engage them until they strike first. On the off chance they don't want to fight, they'll go on past. This is in effect until they make a wrong move or try to attack the city. This is Lioneye, over and out." The screens in Raiden and Capricorn stayed lit with his face, "You two... These are probably more of the unmanned things we saw earlier. You're tactical command out there along with me. Everyone's getting a writeup on it now. Stay sharp, kids..."

Keira sighed, her and Ruger had made it to their mechs and had just powered up. "And I wanted to see our friend in the hospital..." Capricorn began to move out as well as other mechs, "well after this, i'll buy drinks for us, Ruger." Keira chuckled, Capricorn rising high into the air. "Meet you there!" Capricorn sped off, this was an emergency and she couldn't wait for him like she would normally do.
Capricorn stood at the South western wall patiently, many mechs standing behind hers. "Stay sharp, focuse and don't fire unless ordered to." behind her were the rookies, not used to any action. If the more experienced didn't keep an eye out they could shoot someone or something by accident from excitement.

The John Doe was in Room 451. 451 was electronically locked. The alarm stayed silent. All in all, no problems. Well. There would be no problems if 451 was not empty...

{Long Ago...}
The early winter cold had taken more than its fair share from him - by all acounts, he was dead already, but perhaps he didn't know he was. The winds, however, were doing a fair job of convincing him. The once proud man, now a wreck in tattered black, wouldn't let her go. By all accounts, she was dead before he was killed, but perhaps he didn't know she was...
He struggled on with an unnatural strength and extraplanar resolve - but even these were wearing thin in the whipping cold. They had to go somewhere, out of the cold. Rain began to fall, and a cave came into view...
He traveled for an unknown time before reaching it; they were both soaked to the bone with the falling water. Some distance within, however, he found a pool of steaming water. He carefully lay her in it, her head resting upon her arm above the tide, and then fell over himself. There was blackness...

"I'm sorry." Remy whispered, standing, and exiting the graveyard. Her face's features were drawn, tight, and stressed, her limbs tightened, clenching, her whole body seemed to be on edge. The short walk back to her mech was a blur, her head not focusing. She climbed into the cockpit, and saw at once an urgent message calling all available mechs to the southwestern wall. From the looks of it, the call was just made. Instantly Remy switched into battle mode, whatever she was feeling before supressed completely. This ability is what made her such a good pilot.
The southwestern wall wasn't far, and with the speed Mirage was capable of, Remy made it there within five minutes. She passed a few rookies and spotted Capricorn up ahead. Pulling up a comm link with Keira. "Hey I just got the message... Had some important buisness to attend to..." Remy quickly closed that subject, asking for a debriefing, then requesting if she should serve as a scout or stay behind. As far as rank went, Keira was higher up, and she also had more information, so for now, Remy submitted.

"You may scout ahead a little if you wish Remy, but by all means do not fire, unless it is in self defence." Keira looked around, "Rely on your radar for distant scouting, we don't want you to go far." It was dangerous really, because Keira knew there were mechs but thats all they knew. The cities radar could pick them up but all the mechs could not; they had to be closer. A window popped up infront of her, telling her they keep losing their target and picking up again, finding them closer and farther each time though in the same vicinity.

Ruger was about 200 yards to the southeast of Keira and Capricorn, sitting in Raiden, talking to a bunch of the privates under him.
"Ok guys, here's the drill. Keep it quiet, keep it quick, and for God's sake, keep it simple. No fancy shit out there. Just do your job, follow your orders, and get the fuck out. Ain't nobody getting lost on THIS trip, got it?"
He switched his comms to the commanding link, and waited for orders from Lioneye. It didn't take too long.
"Raiden eight, this is Eagle two. Raiden eight, please respond."
"Condor one, this is Raiden eight. I copy."
"Son, it's Lioneye. Listen, I want you to take three of your fastest mechs, and you yourself of course, and move in 3 clicks southwest. We keep getting incomplete signals and strange bumps on the radar map, and I want a better understanding of how many we've got. Move silently, and do it quickly. Got it, soldier?"
"Copy that, Sergeant. Moving out."
Switching comm channels, he spoke to his group again. "Listen, I need...Sly, Chanter, and Stallion, up front, now." There was a general shuffling of the mechs, and the chosen three stepped forward. Sly was piloted by Raci Winda, who was nearly on the level with Ruger, Keira, and Remy in terms of experience and knowledge. Chanter and Stallion were two new pilots, just barely passed out of pilot school, but they were fast little shits, and could turn on a dime. He hoped they were ready for this.
"Ok you three. We're going in for a closer look. Be prepared for anything. Don't fire unless fired upon, and keep in V formation. And Raci... watch my back. I might need it."
"Roger that, Ruger."
"Move out." He started out in the lead, and the others arrayed themselves behind him, moving swiftly. He kept his speed down, just to make sure he didn't lose them. He heard the crunching of his tires on the snow, and the pinging of his reactor core as it shifted from dormancy into action, but that was about it. No odd twitches, no strange grindings....nothing. Raiden was in damn good condition, and that was good. He noticed that the cannon jam had been fixed too. That was even better. He had a feeling he'd need every single bullet for what was coming.....
(OOC: More tomorrow, got lots to do and not enough time to do it in! LOL)
