Year 589, The Forgotten Age
The mass surged upwards once more against its bonds, issuing from its heart a despairing howl as the winged people who stood around it raised their hands higher. Wingtip to wingtip they stood chanting and calling upon the power and the magic earth, air, water, fire and of the moon and sun as they sailed to meet at the zenith of the bloodstained sky. For almost a century these people had waged war with this fiend, this nightmare of darkness, horror, despair and all those other things that were considered evil. It was formless, shapeless at present showing perhaps something close to what it truly was.
Nothing.
The eclipse came as the chanters reached the height of their power, casting all into shadow. The mass gave one final howl of despair and shrieked at its captors.
”Come what may, I will be free of this prison you have chained me too. Crystal will not hold me for ever Falcornians!”[/b][/color]
It shuddered and rose again its black form solidifying under the ethereal light of the eclipse and the unearthly glow of the winged people as their voices slowly died until all that remained was a dark crystal that glowed with a blood-red light. The chanters stepped back and then placed their hands upon the earth and called once more no their power again, pouring their wills and their life into their workings so they faded and died. The earth about the crystal blazed with an unearthly blue light that cracked the earth below the crystal and sunk it deep within the bowls of earth where they had captured the Darkness. In anger the dark crystal shuddered and howled until that howl was lost to the solid and un-giving fortress of stone that became its prison.
Only one remained and she wept silent tears of loss before she turned and headed for the mountain caves where she would slumber and await for the time when the darkness would awaken again. For it was right, given time it would rise again and unless there was one of her kind left to warn those of the new age where it awoke then they would all fall to its power. It would be to them she would deliver her knowledge in the hopes they might derive some manner in which the evil darkness might be forever more defeated.
Year 3562, Golden Age[/i]
In the three thousand years since the sealing of the Darkness, humanity; the inheritors of the world flourished and grew. Using its genius to eventually create and master machines and it was the machines that now ran at the heart of the world. Nexus, the central computer system that maintained everything within the capital city of Cryos and some of the smaller cities and towns beyond. Nexus controlled most aspects of society from the Golems which were the mechanical guards that kept the peace to the simplest of functions such as turning on lights. Yet Nexus being so large and powerful needed a power supply to sustain it. That power supply came from a strange black crystal found not long ago within an old mine. The crystal radiated a kind of power that did not appear to diminish regardless how much of it was tapped.
A mountain not far to the north of the mine there were ruins of a civilization that spoke of the crystal as a herald of Darkness. The scientists of course scoffed at this claiming the people probably tried to harness the power also but failed to do so and that in a drive for the power they battled one another to extinction. The ruins seem to glow with their own inner light and the droids sent in to investigate shut down not three feet past the threshold. The power that radiates from the temple seems to short circuit the power that fuels the droids meaning men had to physically explore a place for the first time in centuries. Inside they found more of the crystalline substance much like the dark crystal but unlike it this crystal is clear and glows white. Because of its negating effect on even the simplest of electronic devices it has been left within the temple for our devices simply can’t define it. Only a few shards were taken for their power appeared minimal and their effects nothing more then white noise to the computers. Sealing the ruins up they were left as they had been found under orders of Nexus who defined the ruins as unsafe and possibly hazardous.
Not long after that Nexsus in a rare turn of events commissioned a new aspect of research looking into nanomites. Small impossible to see with the naked eyes and able to rearrange the molecular makeup of anything they came into contact with. The work continued underway but then disaster struck and the lab was destroyed with the shards of white crystal which were used as a power source for the nanomites and the nanomites, all the information with the research along with the prototype of the nanomites was lost.
Year 3662, Dark Age
A hundred years after the Darkness Crystal was attached to the Nexsus programmed the entity within the Crystal spoken of in the ruins as The Darkness or The Evil overrode the sentient consciousness of Nexsus replacing it within its own. The city of Cryos was the first enslaved to the Dark Mechaniods under its control and slowly its power spread until only the most outlying towns and cities that did not rely upon Nexsus to power their homes and do their work was left but even still the armies of what has come to be called the Shadow-Complex. Those people who survived those hundred years of conquest have turned the remaining cities and towns into fortresses and castles to protect themselves and their people. The world has become much like it was in the early thirteenth century for weapons such as guns have ceased to be effective now people rely upon Plasma edged weapons such as swords, axes and spears to harm their enemies.
Of the cities who survived now gather their forces to send a select group to the old ruins within the mountains that even the Shadow-Complex avoid for they cannot survive in the light bathed area of the ruins within. It is there hope for defeating The Evil will be found or so says a strange woman who appeared at the capital of the free City of Valvadira. Her origins are unknown except that she has uncanny knowledge of the Enemy and her abilities boarder on the edge of supernatural. It is she who will lead those who are willing to risk all to gain the strength needed to stop the Shadow-Complex and their master The Evil.

Robots
Those robots who were not connected to Nexsus at the time of its take over are free droids they are treated like people for they are so few and not all Robots are humanoid. Some inventors created animalistic robots like cats and dogs, birds and even some of the my mythical creatures such as dragons, Chimeras and creatures that could not be other wise described as monsters.
Cyborgs
Are those humans who had mechanical limbs applied to their bodies to replace ones that were lost or to improve their own physical abilities, Some even replaced their limbs with weapons and applied modifications to them to better defend themselves against the Shadow-Complex droids.

Alena gazed solemnly out the far window as the wind tugged playfully at her hair. Her hood was down allowing her long black hair to dance in the breeze. It was quiet in Valvadira though there were more reports everyday that the Shadow-Complex was moving further into the free cities. They would be halted at some of the stronger fortresses but even then they were only slowed. Not stopped. The Enemy had delivered a master stroke taking over the computerized Intelligence of Nexsus. She smiled a bitter smile and shook her head muttering under her breath.
“You most certainty fulfilled your promise…” A door creaked and slowly Alena turned her head as the first of those who had volunteered to join her in their journey o the Ruins of Light. The one place the evil could not touch in its present state but should it free itself from the Crystalline prison like it nearly had a hundred years ago with the Nanomites… there would be no place left to stop it.
