Name: Branok Age: * Branok is incredibly old for his race. Gender: None Race: Clockwork Clockwork Automata have been utilized by humans for generations for various purposes, few possess the ability to react, and fewer still could fool someone into believing that they are 'concious' or capable of true, self aware thought. With proper maintenance and repair procedures, a clockwork automata could function indefinetly. The art of making them has been lost to all but a few, and they guard the knowledge extremely jealously. All automata are created with a purpose which will always be a physical part of them. Generally in the form of a small fragment of paper or stone with its purpose written on it, integrated into the automatas mechanical heart. The words are magical, the automata may not deviate from them. Automata with no Words of Purpose quickly fall dormant. Additionally, most Automata have a built in 'death date'. A date when the magical Words of Purpose fade away, causing the Automata to cease activity.
Appearance: While the years have not been kind to Branok, the aging showing is merely surface. His brass form, though extremely rough, is an almost perfect humanoid. He always wears an old mask, though its signifiance isn't clear. He will always wear baggy clothing to attempt to cover up his mechanical nature. This is irrelevant due to his jerky movements and the fact the ticking of his mechanical heart can always be heard.
Random Shit: i) Are Automata alive? No. Automata are not living creatures. Branok is abnormal in two respects. Firstly, he either has no Words of Purpose, or is ignoring them, and secondly he is capable of repairing himself.
ii) How long does an Automata function for? Generally an Automata will be maintained until it is no longer required, until its function has been completed, or until it is put beyond use. Automata are quite capable of deception and complicated actions, but only in relation to completing their purpose.
iii)Words of Purpose A simple encantation, creating an item with the Automatas purpose written upon it, which must be obeyed. The item is integrated into the Automatas mechanical heart, and the magic from this is what gives them 'life'. The magic, though more symbolic than powerful, acts as a catalyst for everything else. Without the magic from the Words of Purpose, the Automata will deactivate.
iv)How strong are they? Generally Automata are too clumsy to fight toe to toe with their living counterparts. Some show a slight apptitude with ranged weapons, others have minor magical powers for self defence. They do however, possess extreme strength and are highly resilliant to damage. Should the need arise, they will continually try to land blows upon their targets until sucessful. A single blow from an Automata is usually sufficent to squash a humans skull.
v)Do they have any vunerabilities? Automata are completly swines to destroy. They can take huge levels of damage and keep on coming at you. You can, of course, smash them apart, but lacking a blood system, the loss of a limb is little more than an inconveniance to them. The mechanical heart is the vunerable point, but it is also extremely tough, the gears within it easily capable of grinding even the strongest of swords apart should they become lodged in it. The basic way of destroying Automata is to either damage them in such a way that they cannot complete their purpose, or just keep smashing away at them until something vital breaks. To destroy the Automata through the Words of Purpose is generally a simple affair. If the Automatas purpose is to watch, you damage its eyes, if its purpose is to guard, you destroy what it is guarding. To destroy it the traditional way basically requires you to continually hit it until so many bits are damaged that it can no longer function and 'dies'. Magical resistances vary amongst Automata, however heat and fire has a peculiar effect upon them. All Automata like fires, however none of them ever sit or stand next to them. When they become too hot, they malfunction and may suffer metal fatigue. This can cause parts of their bodies to warp out of shape, or even snap under stress that normally would not even hinder them.
