This story is Medieval-Fantasy. Technology exists but is rarely seen. Ports inhabit what little land is left. And villages. Magic consists of Runes etched into <insert reasonable body part>. Say you want Water and Fire magic. All you need is a Water Rune on one wrist and a Fire Rune on your other. The Rune possibilities are endless; Runes which up your weapon abilities dramatically, Runes which wield power of elements, Runes which grant special abilities (Weapon skills you can not learn), and Unique Runes. Unique Runes are your signature ability(ies). And one-of-a-kind. Example: Sun Rune; power of Sun. Another example is a Rune you can't wield ( ) called Punishment. Oh, and a warning - weapon Runes can only possess 1 ability, while magic Runes can possess 4. Unique Runes are no exception. If it affects your weapon, it's 1.

Sea Combat
Your ship can have cannons and special cannons known as Rune Cannons. The Rune Cannons are very powerful and launch concentrated Rune magic. The Runes which operate Rune Cannons are purely elemental, and no god-like Runes are used (example: Sun Rune). To avoid instant kills of ships, Rune Cannon blasts can be negated by launching a Rune Cannon of opposite element.
Example: Enemy ship has a Water Rune Cannon and blasts it. You blast a Lightning Rune Cannon. The result is your blast cancelling your opponent's blast and slamming into a vulnerable ship.
I would like any participants in Stone of The Seas to write a ship profile and send it to me (just me, do not post it 'ere). This is so you can not change Rune Cannons in a battle. But you CAN change if you are sick of an element. Just make sure you mention it when you customize your ship in ports or your hideouts.
The other rule of Sea Combat is,
Boarding
I'm sure you all know what THIS is. Pull your ship close and board an opponent's, where you may have a clash of mortal strength (and any Runes you and your crew may be equiped with).
