Erika was already waiting by Lily's care sitting on the hood while she polished her miror. It was perhaps her most favorite object she could cary around with her besides the ring on her finger. She would liek to carry her three sectioned staff but people would get worried if she carried a weapon around. She would also be tempted to hit people with it. So instead she kept ot her mirror and her ring. Looking back towads the school she sighed and thumped the hood of the car with her fist.
"Hurry up already i wanna go!" she was talknig to herself but she liked having those conversations. It was only when she started ot argue with herself that she worried. "I suppose Alex nad miss Lily are too busy pashing bythe lockers and wizz-kid is still outstripping everyone in math... I mena its not like i care really but still..." she shook her head and looked down into her mirror catchnig her own reflection amoung the thirteen pointed diagram benieth the surface of the glass. Her mirror was actual a piece of highly polished metal with glass cut ot fit on oneside and stuck on to keep the metal reflective and unscratched.
As absureda idea as it was for Alex and Lily to be kissing it made Erika wonder what it was she was missing by being unable to tolirate the touch of another. She sighed deeply and then shook herself snorting at the thought and put her mirror away. No point in lingering on things that would never be. She could not tolirate anothers tough it was liek hitting an emotional rolercoaster she was inthem on them with them. Too personal, too intimant, normal people didn't get so much knowledge from another ta a touch they didn't need to know so much. She was better off alone... wasn't she?
Erika punched hte car hood again and started pacing she hated it when she had too much free time to ponder these things. She didn't need to think about them, not ever. "Hurry up already!" she shouted then started pacing back and forth infront of the car scuffing the heels of her boots on the pavment asshe stepped.

Alex gave a huge grin, pretending like he hadn't even noticed the crazy kid from a minute ago. "Thank GOD! I don't think I could take a minute of..." He looked down at his schedual, "Study Hall. Let's get the hell outta here."
So he let Lilly lead the way, plenty of things going through his mind. like, for instance, who that weird kid was. How he could get this Erika girl to calm down, and how he never really thought of "Bat-Girl" as a real super-hero. His thoughts dwelled on Erika, though. She seemed like your usual kid that thought she was all that but nothing special at the same time. The sortta kid who Alex had run in to a lot in his last school. Say something strange to try and make yourself seem different. It was those people you had to be careful with, because they were hard to deal with. And now he'd be in the same car with her for who knows how long. The whole thing was very unnerving.
Still, Alex just followed Lilly - nearly blindly - untill they got to her car outside.

Lily's mind was racing. Where were they going to go? Will Alex follow? Should she let the cat out of the bag and tell him about the Blue Time? Will everyone get along? She was so focused, in fact, that she became a prime target to Jason and his antics. Suddenly there was hot breath tickling her ear, and someone whispering to her. "Did I hear someone say 'ditch?'"
Lily jumped out of her skin, her heart pounding out of her chest, and she whirled around to face her assaultant.. who was laughing his ass off. "Oh my GOD! Jason! You goon!" she managed to squeek out, her voice slightly elevated. She put her hand over her heart, as if to stop it from beating so fast.
"Oh come on, Lils. I'm just messing with you! Gotta admit, it was fucking funny." He said, and Lily couldn't help but crack a smile. He smoothed out his shirt, four times on each side, and once together, and Lily caught her breath. "I am so going to get you back for that." She said with a glare and a smirk, but not an unfriendly one. Jason went along with the whole ditching... even if he did have to sign out first. Lily just shrugged, one less person to get in trouble that way.
Alex caught up with her, and she was relieved to find out he would be joining them. "Alright!" She smiled, "Glad you aren't a goody-two-shoes.. We probably wouldn't get along if you were." She smirked and gave him a friendly punch to the arm. They walked silently to her locker and she gathered her things, shoving them all into her worn, black messenger bag. The parking lot was close to her locker, just around a corner and out some side doors. Alex and Lily made it there fast, and walked across to the back, where she had parked. "Just so you know, the other kid over there is Jason. He's OCD, so don't be concerned if he does weird things.. they're his rituals. But really, he's good to have around.. He's like a fucking math genius like you have never seen." Lily said as they crossed the parking lot. She never let in as to why a math genius would come in handy, but that was to come. "Yup.. so thats the group.. slightly disfunctional, but what can you do. And yeah, thats.. my car..." Lily said, pushing her bangs out of her eyes, slightly embarrassed, but hey, it ran right?
"Hey guys." Lily said when they got to the car. She popped the trunk and threw her stuff in there, and the others did the same, if they had any stuff that is. Lily thought about how odd her trunk must look to someone who didn't know about the Blue Time.. She had bags full of thumbtacks, 104 in each bag, a ton of loose screws and other metal such as washers, nails and paper clips were floating around back there. Lily didn't care to explain it, so she shut her trunk fast. She rounded the car to the drivers seat and hopped in, putting her keys in the ignition and starting the car. It took a few tries, but the old beast finally started for her. "Atta girl." She smiled, and waited for the others to get in. Erika quickly grabbed the front seat, not daring to go in the back, which was a danger zone, and she was likely to be touched. The boys got in and Lily looked back at them, and then to Erika, "Where to?" she asked. "We could go to the snake pit.. Or the museum.." She trailed off, knowing Erika and Jason would get the significance of either site. Both were filled with Lore, both could help uncover the mystery that was Alex.

"Snake Pit," she replied without even thinking twice. The meusium was all great but she got bored looknig at old bones, paintins suits of armor and dead things. She then turned her head and looked out the passanger side window rather then even atempt to make conversation. She wasn't much of a talker but she did listen well., mostlybecause half of what she said came out hurtful, spiteful or just plain vicious.

Alex shrugged, even though nobody was looking at him. After about a minute of silence he turned to Jason. "So, uh... Jason, was it? How's life aroudn this place? Doesn't seem like much happands, really. And obviously people don't keep close tabs on eachother. Seems kindda dull, acctually." He was simply looking for conversation; it was obvious.
A long ride out to the desert. Still, since the place is called the "Snake Pit", Alex thought, it could be fun.

It was....that kid. The kid from the Blue Time. The new Midnighter. Jason hadn't been sure until right now that that was who Lily had been talking to. The mystery kid. Wow....that was...unnerving. But hey, he seemed like an ok kid, from what Jason could see. And he was talking, wasn't he? Well, that was interesting at least. Maybe this kid wasn't too bad. Maybe he was just a normal kid.
Yeah. Right. Normal. Like any of them were normal.
"Yeah, it's Jason. And as for life around Bixby....well...The days are pretty boring. But the nights...they can be real killer. Depending on who you hang out with of course."
He chuckled nervously, and looked at the others in the front seat. He felt pretty nervous, being around this new kid. And nervousness brought out the rituals in him. As Alex watched, he began to rub his hands together, as if washing them. He rubbed them exactly thirteen times, then let them go, reached up, and touched the ceiling of the car. He returned to rubbing his hands, thirteen times, and touching the ceiling of the car. As he did this, he got, of course, incredibly embarrassed. It was intensely uncomfortable, performing a ritual in front of this new kid. But he did it anyways, because if he didn't he would feel....unclean. And he would do anything not to feel unclean.
He tried to continue the conversation even as he performed his little ritual, having to do it at least 15 times before he would be considered clean. "So...uhh...what's your name? Where are you from? Oh, and don't mind me...it's just...uhhh...a thing. Call it a disease, if you'd like."

Alex smiled, trying to lighten the mood he'd seem to bring on. "Don't worry about it; doesn't bother me one bit. The name's Alexander B. Wolfe. Nice to meetcha. I'm from the city of Long Beach, up in Washington state. It's a nice palcce. lotsa stuff going on. Plenty of people all the time. Nice ocean." He scanned his view over the members of the car and out into the ever-approaching desert; naerly sickened by it already.
"When my dad died, my mother decided to move out here for some strange reason. I don't know how he died. The only thing I really know about it was that he left two rather cool things. Like this..." He pulled out Conflagration, his lighter, and began opening and closing the lid to it; loving the CLINK sound it made. "Nice lighter. I don't usually smoke or anything, but it's nice. And it never goes dry, either!"
He passed the thing up to Lilly, on request, and then pulled out his second gift. "This baby came form him, too. It's busted though." It was his pocket watch, Demonstrative. "For some reason it always turns out to be an hour fast every day. It's weird, right?" He said, taking the lighter back from Lilly and pocketing it before passing up the watch.

Erika took the watch however before Lily could grab hold and examined it over carefulytracing a finger along the surface of it and turning it over without coment then handed it to Lily. "Time is odd here, you'll learn that soon enough. who knows maybe tonight the lot of us can roam about the town after curfew and see what night time creatures lurk in the streets after midnight... The Snake Pit is....interesting around that time but never og there alone not unless you wanna end up hurt or worse..." She looked over her shoulder to Alex and tilted her head ot the side meeting his eyes. The look was searchnig for a moment as if she were looking deeper then most people. It was a fleeting thing though as Erika returned her attention to the windscreen. "Hey Alex lets play a game.... I want you to think of a word, number and a city and I'll try and guess all three." she smiled glancing sidelong at Lily giving her a sly wink that was missed by the boys in the back because they couldn't see her face.

A few things popped in to Alex's mind all at once, but he decided to go with the ones that fit the situation best as he saw it.
Rediculus 13 Cairo
Those were the three things. But there was no way that she could guess all three, he was sure of that much. While thinking the three things, Alexander took back his watch, shined it on his shirt, and pocketed it again, where it was sure to get dirty. It didn't really matter though, because right now he was going to take part in an impossible game with one of the strangest and yet most common people he'd ever met.
"Alright, go ahead and guess."

Erika snorted and looked back over her shoulder. "Too easy Casanova, the first is without a doubt Rediculus" she watched the surprise register on his face. "The next is 13 a most beloved number of all Bixby. and the last is..." she paused examined her fingernails then said "Cairo a hot and arid little city." she gave a wicked little grin and then winked at him. "As I said, too easy."

Alex looked flustered for a moment, before trying to pass it off as s fluke. "Yeah yeah, lucky guess." He scoffed. "It really was too easy anyway. And..." At the sight of a large something growing through the windshield, alex trailed off, before asking "Is that it?"

Erika looked out the windscreen and gave and shrug. "Perhaps... and do you really think that was a fluke Casanova?" she chuckled softly then glanced over her shoulder at him. Amused by the fact she had flustered him, it would have been even bettwe except for the odd taste it left in her mouth. "Ah well some people are harder to convince I suppose, they just want to cling to what they have always believed ot be normal if only to maintain that stereotypical beliefe thatthe world rotates on its axis, the sun and moon rise and set and we run on a 2 hour timetable..." she closed her eyes. "Never discount what you cannot see with your eyes, you do that around here and you're in big trouble of course if you keep thinking aboutr Bat-girl like I know you are and there probibly will be trouble." She smiled wickedly as she looekd at Lily.

Jason watched Erika with a smile on his face. You little bitch, he thought to her, quite clearly, knowing she would pick it up. It was all in fun of course, he knew she was fucking around with Alex's head, but still...she could be so...conniving. He loved her though, she was one of his only friends, and they both understood that. Once...and it was just once, in the Blue Time, completely accidentally....he had touched her, his hand hitting hers in bare skin-to-skin contact. And they had shared quite an unpleasant experience. Their minds had melded, they had almost...joined together, if only for a few moments. It hadn't lasted long, maybe seconds, but it had felt like an eternity. And when it was done, not only did Erika know even more about Jason than she already had, but he knew more about her too. He knew some of her fears, and her weaknesses, and her doubts. And they, being Midnighters, had shared something that night. Nothing sexual, or even able to be expressed out loud....Just, a kind of mutual bond.
Well, all Midnighters had that bond. Or so the Lore said, from what he had heard from Lily. Midnighters were a breed unto themselves, completely independent as a group, yet completely codependent on each other. Erika was the aggressive one, the one who knew more than she said, and talked less than she thought. She had gotten them through many battles with Darklings, and he didn't think he'd even be alive if it hadn't been for her. And Lily...she was the leader, their faithful captain, who read the history for them and saw more in people than maybe even Erika saw. Because Erika could see a person's mind...Lily seemed able to read a person's heart. That's what Jason had always liked about Lily. She had seemed...closer to his heart than Erika was. And he, of course, was their fucked up little genius. With his rituals, he held all the insanity for the group, just in case they needed some. He outfitted them, he calculated for them, he worked every hour for the Blue Time. Not that he felt bad about it...he liked it. But it was for those two girls that he lived his life. He didn't know what he would do without either girl. They were just...his best friends, and he treasured them more than anything else.
"Yeah, that's it. We should be there in 2 and a half minutes, unless Lily goes significantly lower than I postulated for an average speed." He said out loud, mostly to Alex. He took out his notebook, and began scribbling equations again, taking a chance every few minutes to peer at the sun and at the clock.
"Lily...Your clock is 35 seconds slow. You'd better fix that, because this morning it was only 32. It's getting slower. Just thought you should know."

You little bitch, Erika read htat thought loud and clear from Jason and giggled evily. "Jason I'm touched. I just love it when you think such pleasent compliments." she streached back on her seat and smiled. "Jason... tone down the though process a little you're giving me a migraine with all those numbers..." she rubbed at her temples then took out a box of what contained high strength pain killers. She took two out of the packet and swallowed them without water. "That should dull it for an hour or two..." She then looked ta Lily, "Are we there yet mummy?"

Keep your eyes on the road.. Just focus on the road.. Lily told herself, over and over. She had a record for being a not-so-efficient driver. She had never gotten into a major accident, but after a couple fender benders and parking mishaps, she knew she probably shouldn't push her luck. The others were talking up a storm, and she tried not to linger too long on any of the conversations. The music was at a low hum, the windows down, the breeze pushing her bangs over her eyes, which didn't help Lily's focus. Note to self: Shave head ASAP. Hair is simply a nuisance.
Lily's ears perked up, however, when she heard the conversation gear towards her. "Come on Erika." She said, half smiling, half serious, "Like anyone would give a second thought about lil-ol-me." She half turned to look at Alex, but only for a brief second before remembering she was driving, and turning her attention back to the road. "Don't mind her... She's a mind reader." She said, with lots of sarcasm. If only he knew how true that statement was. Lily thought, and thought she saw Erika crack a crooked and hauntingly evil smile. The conversation was so normal for her, she wouldn't have thought twice about it if it weren't for a new kid. Jason informed her that her clock was a few seconds off to which she rolled her eyes and replied, "If you care about it so much, then you can fix it for me, K? And while you are at it, you can fix my engine. It's been making this clacking sound when I go over 65. Oh, and she could probably use a good washing. But hey, if thats too much to ask, you can always walk to school." She smiled, Looking at Jason through the rear-view. She was kidding, of course, and he knew that.
Soon the snake pit came into view, or the starts of it. Lily drove the car right off the road and onto the desert, parking it a few yards away from the pit. There were no roads leading directly to it, in fact, most steered very clear. The snake pit itself was technically in Broken Arrow, their neighbor town, and was made up of a large dried up lake which tended to house many types of snakes, thus the name. Exiting her car, Lily walked the few yards to the edge of the pit, hopping in without a second glance to check for actual snakes. "So, here it is, the legendary snake pit." She smiled, knowing there really wasn't much to see... at least not on this side of the lake. "Deep in the heart of the desert, the snake pit is known for it's crater like qualities, and of course, the snakes that reside in it. The Bixby officials warn you of the eminent danger that the pit possesses, and discourages it's citizens from visiting. Some say it's because of the rattlers, but we know the real truth. Why, they are all scared because of what happened to Sheriff Marshalls last summer in this very place. You see, they found his uniform, badge, eyeglasses, gun, and even his fillings and wedding ring in a pile near the edge of the pit, and could never explain what happened to him." Lily smiled, using her best "Tour guide" voice, batting her eyes and using obnoxious hand gestures. She laughed, and her voice turned back to normal. "Actually, all that is true. The cops have been known to arrest people for being in the pit at all.. Even though they have no jurisdiction in this area." Lily walked further into the pit, still grinning. "Of course, people have always been scared of the real snake pit. See, this is technically just the outer rim.. whats cool about this place is all the way on the other side there.." Lily pointed to a rock formation on the other side of the lake. It happened to be where they found the Sheriff's things, and it also happened to be a huge part of the Midnighters history. She walked towards it, and the others followed. "Watch for rattlers." She said, then continued to tell stories about weird things happening at the rocks. "People say that if you're down there at exactly Midnight, that by 12:01 things change, stuff moves around, or you're facing a different direction than you were a second ago. Some say it's Demons.. But we know better than that." She turned and looked at Alex, a crooked smirk on her face.
They reached the rocks after five minutes of walking, sharing stories the whole way. The rocks were of medium size, all except for one boulder which stood at about 8 feet and was covered in symbols. Lily grinned, finding comfort in the familiar symbols. Jason and Erika knew some of them, but not all, and they certainly couldn't read it, but these were, in fact, Lore symbols. Lily sat on one of the smaller rocks, sighing. It had been far too long since she had been there. She stared at the boulder, reading the symbols again, hoping for a clue as to Alex's sudden appearance. After a minute or two she smiled to the others. "Not much to look at in the day time.. but come here at Midnight, and you're in for a treat." She ran her fingers through her hair, pulling out the knots at the end. "I say we come back tonight." She smirked, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "What do you say?" She asked, adding after a moment that if anyone needed an excuse, they could come to her house for an all night-study session. They had had many of those before, the three of them, and always at Lily's. One, because she had the car, and two, because her dad didn't care.. Or wasn't well enough to care. "Come on guys, it'll be fun!"
