It always came when you didn't expect it. You could watch your clock, down to the very second, and it always caught you by surprise. Lily Thompson sat in her room, dressed in hiking boots, jeans, and a long sleeved black top, pacing across the floor, a nervous, excited anticipation welling inside of her stomach. The black framed glasses she usually wore were folded on her desk, only a few old papers and symbols scattered around her room showed signs of focus. A few spots on the clothes she had worn the night before clung to the focus, Lily shivered, not wanting to encounter anything like last night again. She looked to the ground, at her worn black hiking boots, they stared back at her, perfectly in focus, and Lily remembered all the slithers she had stomped with them, grinning slightly. A shudder filled her, so caught up in her memories that she didn't feel it approaching. The room around her drained of all it's color, the hum of her computer instantly freezing, the Oklahoma wind which was howling outside silenced, the world turned into a navy hue, everything around her coming into perfect, 20/20+ focus. “Instantaneous.” She whispered to herself, her mouth tingling at the taste of the thirteen letter word. She reached under her bed, grasping a duffel bag full of her favorite weapons, made by a certain polymath friend of hers, and grinned. Finally, the blue time was here. --------------------------------------- Strange things happen at midnight in the town of Bixby, Oklahoma. Time freezes. Nobody moves. For one secret hour each night, the town belongs to the dark creatures that haunt the shadows. Only a small group of teenagers know about the secret hour - only they are free to move about the blue time. They call themselves Midnighters. --------------------------------------- Seer (taken – demented) – A Seers main job is reading the Midnighters lore. Only they can see and understand it. In the lore the Seers were the boss, the leader of all the Midnighters, and the town of Bixby itself. They were looked up to, respected, and followed. That is, until all the Midnighters vanished. The lore mysteriously stops, ending abruptly. Something happened to all the Midnighters fifty years ago, and it's up to the Seer to research the lore, and to save the new Midnighters from suffering the same fate. A Seer can spot a Midnight item from miles away, a strange focus clings to is, one that is so sharp it goes beyond the “perfect” 20/20. In the blue time everything is in that sharp focus, the world around so clear that they can spot things from far away, and with haunting detail. In the other 24 hours of the day, the Seers sight is less than perfect. Basically blind without glasses, anything that doesn't have to do with the Midnight hour, or a Midnighter themselves is blurry. Mind Caster (taken- Nishy)– Mind Casting is a double edged sword, a gift and a curse. A Mind Caster has the ability to read other peoples minds, their emotions manifesting as a taste in their mouth. The problem: They cannot chose whose mind they read when. Constantly bombarded by the minds of the entire town of Bixby, crowds are a dangerous thing for Mind Casters, a guaranteed headache.. But it's not like they didn't suffer from those all the time anyways. Not only do Mind Casters read thoughts, but they taste emotions, an acidic taste on their tongues. With a single touch, the connection is tripled, a terrible overwhelming experience for a Mind Caster. It feels like the person invades their brain, more so than usual, feeling their every thought, intensified by a thousand. And when a Mind Caster touches another Midnighter, it goes both ways. Both parties invade each others brains, an unpleasant, maddening experience for both parties. The lore says that Mind Casters used to be able to control the ability, used to be able to touch people without bombarding their brains. However, the secrets were shared from one Mind Caster to another, and it seemed to have disappeared with the rest of the Midnighters. A Mind Caster can taste another Midnighter from miles away, if they are looking for one. During the secret hour the voices stop, a beautiful silence. Only the other Midnighters and the Darklings could be heard, which was more than tolerable. Mind Casters have a dangerous ability to change the minds of daylight people, rearranging their brains. This is something that only the Mind Caster and Seer know about, for safety reasons. Usually the Mind Caster is not allowed to use this, for it can leave the daylighter damaged permanently, turning them into a vegetable, or worse: killing them. With the constant invasion of their brains, Mind Casters tend to have quite an attitude. They are very blunt, and not nice in the least bit.. But hey, you wouldn't be nice if you had to hear and taste every thought of the people around you either. Polymath (taken - Archangel)– A literal math genius, Polymaths are crucial to the Midnighters. They have the ability to arm and protect the Midnighters, their ability to spot tridecalogisms is key to the survival of the teens. A tridecalogism is a thirteen letter word, and pair that with a piece of clean steel, or some new metal alloy, and you have yourself a guaranteed anti-darkling weapon. Thirteen is a very anti-darkling number, and steel untouched by darkness is poison to them. Polymaths have the ability to map out the blue time, finding it's high points and low points. There are places where Mind Casters are completely oblivious to, a dead spot where neither darkling or Mind Caster can taste someone. There are very few of these, and the Polymath has yet to find the deadest of all dead spots in Bixby, but they are working on it. The war general of the group, Polymaths are a key element, one of the few whose power works in both the daytime and the blue time, giving them plenty of time to find tridecalogisms, and plenty of time to solder more steel weapons for the group. (Note: Talk to me for a list of tridecalogisms, and more information about mapping out the blue time, it has to do a lot with the plot, so expect a lot of direction from me.)Acrobat – Acrobats posses the coolest power of all: the ability to fly.. well sorta. When the Midnight hour comes, gravity gets mixed up for the Acrobat, making them able to leap tall buildings, no wire needed. They feel a great weightlessness during the secret hour, and the great thing is, hold another Midnighters hand, and the weightlessness bleeds into them as well, making them able to leap with you. It makes getting from place to place extremely fast, and is helpful in a hard spot. Acrobats have to build up momentum, starting with small leaps until finally being able to bound over buildings without much thought. An Acrobat sees flight patterns in their brain, almost like literal lines, seeing when and how hard to jump at each pass, which way to angle their body to send them to the right place, and how to get from point A to point B in the fastest way possible. Flying with an Acrobat takes practice, jumping out of sync will leave you spinning around each other. Landing is no problem, you barely feel a thing, and you can stop whenever you want, even after a large jump, unlike when you start, you don't have to wind down into smaller jumps to land. Acrobats powers are limited to the blue time, the only thing that ever transcends between all 25 hours is the fact that they are always hungry. They can eat triple what any other human could, and stay as thin as a rail. Their bodies are built for speed, long, thin, with powerful legs, looking much like someone who would be the star on a track team or something of the like. Their metabolism keeps them trim without needing to exercise, the one hour of weightlessness always leaving them starving. Almost as a rule, they are more free spirited, enjoying the blue time immensely, and dreading the daylight hours. They don't take it very seriously, all this Midnighters Lore and danger, more concerned with flying. (Note: I have a special weapon for the Acrobat. Contact me when making your profile.)Flame Bringer (taken - Wolfe)– The almighty Flame Bringer is someone the Darklings fear greatly. In the blue time anything electronic freezes, nothing works, and thats how the Darklings like it. Their fear of new ideas and technological advances is what forced them to flee into the Midnight hour in the first place. For the Flame Bringer, certain things work for them in the Secret hour, like a wrist watch or a flash light.. The second of which being their most prized weapon. Pair a steel flashlight with a tridecalogism, hand it to the Flame Bringer and whammo, you have an instant Darkling killer. The light intensifies, literally burning any Darkling caught in it's path. The light is so bright, only the Flame Bringer can look at it with no problem. To other Midnighters, it won't hurt them, nothing more than an intense headache from looking at the brightest light imaginable. Flame Bringers have the power to make fire, the first weapon against Darklings, and their greatest fear. Since the Flame Bringer came in town, they have been getting very vicious, always looking for some way to kill this Midnighter. They fear the Flame Bringer, more so than any other Midnighter, and with good reason. Still trying to find the symbol..(Note: Please talk to me before choosing to be the Flame Bringer. There are some specific things you need to know, and that you need to add into your profile.)--------------------------------------- Profile:Name:Age: (16-18) Midnight Power: History: Weapon: (Guns have no power. Anything metal paired with a tridecalogism will be a guaranteed Darkling killer. Weapons lose power with each use [exceptions are the Flame Bringers flashlights], Each Midnighter should have at least one or two weapons stored on their person for emergency. I will allow three weapons to have with you at this point. Talk to me for help with your tridecalogisms.) Other:--------------------------------------- Name: Lily Thompson Age: 17 Midnight Power: Seer Appearance: Lily Wearing mostly black clothing, Lily wasn't popular at school, her only friends the other Midnighters. Her normal garb consisting of dark denim jeans, her black hiking boots, and some sort of black top. History: Born and raised in Bixby, Lily has always known about the blue time, not sure what it was until she was found by the Mind Caster. She had thought she was crazy up until the other Midnighter had found her. She discovered the Lore, and other things that had to do with the secret hour, and had been researching Bixby for years. She's the self appointed leader of the group, and takes the Midnight hour seriously, treating it like a danger zone, but enjoying the thrill of being on the front line. She has been trying as hard as she can to find what happened to the other Midnighters, feeling a sinking feeling that time was running out. Weapon: Instantaneous Psychosomatic Glorification: Her pride and joy. A custom dagger, anti-darklingified by the Polymath, embedded with Lore symbols, thirteen to be exact, and blessed with a name sure to kill any Darkling, old or new, three tridecalogisms much better than one. The Midnighters limited their triple named weapons to one per person, just because they didn't want to run out of tridecalogisms any time soon. She keeps it tucked into her hiking boots, sheathed, and ready for some butt kicking. Nefariousness Nefariousness: Modified to house thirteen charms, this bracelet never leaves Lily's wrist. It's a good way to keep annoying lesser Darklings away. Dependability: A hub cab on Lily's old beater of a car, the back right one to be exact. It doesn't match her other rusty ones, it's clean, new, and the inside is lined with 39 Lore symbols, a very anti-darkling number. Other: Lily is terrified of spiders, a memory from her past always haunting her. Arachnophobia (a tridecalogism itself), the bane of her existence. --------------------------------------- Lily opened her window, eying the the thirteen thumb tacks pressed into the wood. The simplicity of the defense seeming to be so worthless, but hey, it worked. Lily had grown up in Bixby, so she was used to the blue time by now, but things were changing, and it had her on edge. She shuddered, remembering the bite from the slither she had last night, the focus on the clothes burning bright. The bite had bruised over now, but her arm was still sore. She paused, not wanting to get caught off guard again. Finally, with a deep sigh, she reminded herself that the others would meet her soon, climbed out of her window, and headed to the designated meeting spot, a block from her house. The insanely early 10:00 curfew meant most people were sleeping, or at least at their house by now. Lily saw only one stiff, getting their mail, frozen with their hand reaching into the metal box. Lily didn't look too close, their frozen waxed over figures not something she cared to look at for very long. She shivered, though it was always perfectly warm in the blue time, and walked on, noticing only one car on the road, the tires forming ovals, and Lily wondered what the Polymath would say the speed they were going was. It always amazed Lily how math cam so easy to the Polymath.. Their skills far surpassing any famed Mathematical genius. Lily wondered what the birth time on Einsteins birth certificate read. Her own birth certificate read 12:01, the very reason why she was here, and why she was a Seer. Lily figured that the clock was slightly off, knowing for sure she was born within seconds of Midnight, as were all the Midnighters. It was the key, the reason for their powers, the reason they could see the Midnight hour. Lily reached the meeting place, and looked at the old houses surrounding her. The Bixby seal, a thirteen pointed star, mounted on almost all of them, a plaque that according to Bixby history, has to do with fire insurance. Lily knew better, she knew it was Darkling protection. Thirteen was integrated into Bixby, their seal being the thirteen pointed star, the town hall having exactly thirteen steps, the library's having thirty-nine. She wondered how different she would be treated, if she had been born back in the days when there were lots of Midnighters, back when Seers were the leaders, when they were the most important. A flying slither passed her, it's dark body and large, stark white eyes looking down at her, probably wondering what she was up to. Lily saw a few more slithers further into the desert, and absentmindedly played with Nefariousness, whispering it's name. It glowed with blue fire as the slither got closer, not harming Lily, but scaring off the lone slither, flapping it's snake like body towards the desert. She sighed, and looked at the distance towards town, her house closest to the desert, AKA Darkling central, and watched for the others. What she could only guess as a minute later, she saw a figure appear. She smiled, and grew anxious, waiting. OOC: This RP was based on the Midnighters series by Scott Westerfeld.

(I hope this is ok)
Name: Erika Mavrik Age: 18 Appearance: Erika has copper-gold coloured hair that reaches to the middle of her back and is generally tied back into a low ponytail to keep it out of her face. Her complexion is pale like most people with copper hair and her eyes are a stunning dark green that seem to bore into you when she looks at you. They pale when she is angry however and often look cold rather then enraged. She wears generally a pair of simple black jeans, calf high thick soled bike boots a black t-shirt with a dragon coiled around a sword and a dark brown leather long coat that reaches to the length of her heels. Midnight Power: Mind Caster History: Erika grew up in Bixby and has wandered the Blue Time for as long as she can remember and survived by keeping her wits about her learning about how to stop darknlings by observation and reading the thoughts of soem fo those she could understand. She loves those times because it’s the one time of the entire night where her senses are overrun with the thoughts of others and their feelings. Because of her ability Erika is short tempered, easily angered, crude, rude, sharp tongued and unsympathetic towards anyone. She also hates to be touched; she won’t stand for it and WILL hit anyone stupid enough to try. Erika has also been in and out of Hospital because of mental fatigue more times then she can count, because of the constant bombardment of her mind. During the Blue time there is a noticeable change in her personality. She calms down to a point where she’s sometimes civil to talk to rather then never and she is less likely to point out your flaws, rub your nose in them and then verbally beat you down then if it were during the Daylight hours. Weapon: Conscientious Intentionally Machiavellian:- A custom made three section staff of stainless-steel rods and chains. Each section is 26 inches long with a ball bearing swivel for each independent section (making it 6 ½ ft long) and engraved with a singe thirteen letter word on each shaft that derived its blessing name. Its name, a name which means; ‘meticulously, by design, deceiving’ Which is understandable after all who would think a three section staff could kill anything. Resplendently:- A simple ring set with thirteen stones it is as broad as her finger between the first knuckle and the second of her middle finger. The ring is made of stainless steel and the stones are sapphires. It keeps lesser Darklings at bay when things are looking tight. Incorruptible:- is a stainless teal backed Mirror cut to have thirteen sides and has a tridecagram on both sides. It’s a nasty little thing to Any Darkling. Other: She suffers from a mild case of Haphephobia which is a fear of being touched. Brought on by her Mind Caster ability. She doesn’t want to touch people or be touched because it makes things FAR to personal and on a level people should never experience.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Erika hummed a mery little ditty to herself as she twirled her three sectioned staff like a baton, stroling down the dark streets of Blue Time. The moment the Midnighthour had come she felt the change and relished it for with the change came the silence. It made her feel light, carefree is a way that she believed most people took for granted. Noone could understand what it was like to be her to never know true silence in ones mind, to alwyas be listening to the thoughts of others and know what they really think of you even when they're trying to be nice. Peoplewere twosided, the world was twosided and nothing was ever truely truthful. There was deciet in everything, everyone the only difference was she could see it in them or rather feel and taste it. The worst part was feelnig thier emotions as they taled, it soured her food and made eating a nescsary chore rather then soemthnig pleasurable. She couldn't be bothered trying new foods either becuase lets face it, who wants to try somethnig new when you know its going to have a nasty before, during and after taste. Right nowhowever Erika was using her ability to track down someone, a friend (is she ever could really call anyone that). It was made easy by the lack of mental white noise in the background and hte fact that Midnighters had a very different feel about them to Darknlings and Daylighters. That didn't mean it wasn't double edged, like her gift or curse. Touchnig another midnighter not only trebled the intensity of which she felt on and in the person 9it was the same with Daylighters) but also let Midnighters know her inner most feelings. That was something that made Erika cold inside and mostly part of the reason she forbade anyone to touch her. Oh yes sometimes it couldn't be helpedd but still... She shuddered and pushed the thoughts away looknig up ahead to where she spotted a familiar figure to her eyes and mind. Erika suppressed the urge to smile and wave as she caught the free end of her three section staff and strapped it to her thigh with the special straps as she appraoched Lily. 'Hail to you oh glorious leader!' Sarcasim litraly dripped form ehr words as she spoke and gave n overstated and clearly mocking bow. 'Whats new in the world of our dear and most bat blind Leader?'

Name: Jason Kyle Age: 18 Midnight Power: Polymath
Appearance: Jason is a small young man, with a physique leaning towards emaciated, and an abnormally large head. His entire body is no more than 90 pounds soaking wet, and stands no higher than 5' nothing. He is, however, preternaturally neat. He dresses only in button-up shirts and pressed pants, everything always cleanly ironed and beautifully maintained. He wears formal dress shoes at all times, and even on some occassions he wears a tie to school, even though it is in no way required. He has cleanly shaven brown hair and sparkling green eyes, and is always looking very chic and well-dressed, even for one as scrawny as he is.
History: Jason Kyle is a mathematical genius. It is an undeniable fact, although he tries not to let it go to his head. He has spent his whole life in Bixby, and has been a Polymath as long as he can remember. It manifested itself as a brilliance in math and science at an early age, but quickly changed when he first entered the blue time. He is a master of tridecalogisms, and a master of metallurgy, as well as being able to incorporate the number 13 into anything. The only problem is...he's become a bit Obsessive Compulsive. Actually, the phrase "a bit" doesn't begin to describe it. He has full-blown OCD, which makes things very difficult sometimes.
Weapon: Being a master of weaponry makes it easy for him to arm himself with whatever he wishes.
*Purposelessly Incorruptible Dependability: This powerful weapon is something that only a metallurgist could think up, and make, considering he only has a school metal shop to do it in. He hides it in his room during the day, but at the blue time, he takes it out. Basically, it is a solid steel glove, made flexible by the many joints. Attached to the metal glove is a perfect 39 degree arc of metal, sharpened to jagged points. Each point is an exact 13 degree angle. Inscribed on the flat part of the blade is a tridecagram, made with perfect angles, and exactly correct with the correctness that only comes from a perfectionist. And inscribed on the glove itself is the name, all in perfect caligraphy.
*Daguerreotype: On a whim, Jason took a casual picture of a sunset with an old-fashioned camera. As soon as he did, he realized that he had used a camera so old it was actually making daguerreotype pictures! Delving into the camera shop late at night (locks couldn't hold back a master lockpick), he took the silver-plated piece of metal that the daguerreotypes were made on, inscribed the tridecalogism onto it, and modified it for use. Now, he uses it like a throwing star, flicking it with his wrist and releasing it at deadly speeds.
*Longiloquence: A minor weapon, but one he forged himself, and worked long and hard on it. Basically, it is a 4 foot length of chain with a 4 pound weight welded onto the end. Each link is inscribed with a tridecagram, and the name is inscribed on the weight. He uses it as a chain flail, and does fairly well with it.
Other: Not much, besides the fact that he has severe OCD. His parents are not exactly attentive, so he can do a lot around the town without worrying about them yelling at him. But really, he loves working with the others, and is genuinely excited about going into the blue hours. But he is the war leader of the group, which meant he had some belligerent responsibilities to take care of, and that makes him a little edgy sometimes.
**************************************************************
"Well well well, I see we're all getting her rather quickly tonight."
His voice came from the doorway, but he did not enter yet. The girls stared at him, and he knew they were waiting for him. But he couldn't go through the door. It felt like a brick wall to him, not like an open door at all. But he knew there was a way to get through. All he had to do was concentrate...and perform the ritual.
Carefully, he raised his hand. Tapping his head seven times, he looked up to the right hand corner of the door, and took a half step in. Talking a step out, he tapped his head three more times, then turned sideways and sidled halfway through the door. Stopping, he reached up and tapped his forehead three more times, then finally stepped through the door.
It was always like this when he wanted to be somewhere badly. He had to perform his rituals. He had rituals for everything, really. Rituals for opening cans, rituals for driving a car, rituals for just about any eventuality. In times of stress, he was forced to go through the rituals in order to do anything. It got tedious, and it made him extremely embarrassed. But he did it because it made him feel...clean. That was the prime mover in his life. To stay clean. Things made him feel dirty. Dirt, of course, did. But other things too. Doing a drive without a ritual first made him feel dirty, as if he had insulted someone, and it pressed on his soul. If he had gone through the door without doing the ritual, he would have felt dirty, so dirty. And then he would have to cleanse himself. And that process took even longer than the door ritual. Plus, it made him bleed. He did not want to cleanse himself very often, but he felt he had to all the time.
He didn't have to do the ritual every time. But when he felt he had to do it, he had to do it, or risk becoming dirty. Smiling embarrassedly, he was suddenly hit with something.
"Embarrassedly." His lips tingled at the sound of the tridecalogism. He had found another one! He would have to put it on his list. Quickly taking out his perfectly organized notebook from his back pocket, he wrote down the word, next to some math equations he had been working on. Slipping it back into his pocket, his embarrassment past, he smiled at the two girls in the room.
"So...hi!" And he smiled even bigger.

Name: Alexander Wolfe Age: 16 Midnight Power: Flame Bringer Appearance: Alexander dresses in a lot of deep red and black colors, along with Maroon and dark blue. He doesn't really care what he wears, and more often than not wears the same pair of pants for the whole week. But Alex does keep his short hair kept. So kept, infact, that he had it dyed red with black tips, and always spikes it. His eyes are naturally blue, and he leaves them like that, because he hates the idea of contacts. History: When he was very small, Alexander's father died. The cause was never revealed to him, and as he aged it burned at his mind more and more. Since his father's death, Alex was left alone with his mother, who wasn't there as often as he would have wished. Having half a parent caused Alexander to grow up with a harsh attitude towards other people, but at least he knew how to smile for the adults and keep himself in his house for that much longer. The week before his father died, he gave Alex a lighter and a pocketwatch, and said to hang on to both for as long as he lived; and he has so far. Weapons: Ætsprungennes Scintillating Illuminations: Translating to "Failing Shinging Source of Light", this is Alex's flashlight. The whole thing is made of polished steal, with the brightest light he could find in it. For some reason, the flashlight never runs out of battery power. The name reflects both Alex and the Flashlight itself.
Conflagration: One of Alex's most cherrished possessions, this lighter is made by Zippo, and painted with thirteen flames running atristically over the black, steel outside. For some reason, never runs out of fluid.
Demonstrative: A final gift from Alexander's father, this pocket watch is made of shining steel, with thirteen rilliant gold lettered symbols, that mean nothing to Alex. For some reason, every day he wakes up this clock is ahead by an hour.
Other: N/A
"Mom! I say, MOM! MOOM! What the FUCK?! MOM!? Christ, what is WRONG with you?!" Then alexander realised that the water that she was using to wash the dishes had stopped running, and knew that something strange was going on. The water hadn't really... stopped, so much as... frozen in place. And when Alex touched it, he found that he could push segments of water out of the way, and the rest of it stayed in place. Something very strange was going on.
Alex took out his pocket watch, and checked the time. According to that momento, it was a minute after midnight. He hadn't even noticed untill then; he and his mom had gotten in quite the... discussion. After she'd decided to move to this little nowhere town, leaving Alex to be torn from his whole LIFE at home, her son wasn't very happy.
But now she just... stood there, looking as if she was about to say soemthing, and nothing. Meaning nothing, moved. Nothing but Alexander's pocket watch, for some reason. Then Alex noticed something about his mother that wasn't the same as a second before. She looked... waxy. He eyes did, too. Everything about her. And the inside of her mouth was a strage sort of shade, he thought. After looking closer, Alexander started to feel... ahppy. He was in an argument with his mother and now it all stopped. It was like a dream. Now he could have his whole reign on the town, without any parental issues. So, that's jsut what Alex decided to do: Have a night on the town.
When he stepped outside, Alexander saw that the whole city looked and even felt strange. There was no win; almsot like there was no air, but a tree was still tilting, as if it would be being blown around. Also, a robin was flying overhead, but it wasn't moving. The robin was just... there. Everything was as if it were frozen in time. This was something that Alex had been waiting for his whole life! It was either the perfect dream, or an even more perfect reality.
Checking the time, Alex saw that it was about a minute and a half after Midnight, so he decided to go have a look around. Everyone was surely in bed by now; he'd heard about some crefew of 10:00, but since everything was frozen, and he was outside, he thought he should look around. But where to go, that was the question he was presented with. Something that, at first, stopped him as still as that robin. But then he knew; he would go down to the local store; maybe try lifting some things. Nothing major, of course; he wasn't as bad as all that. But some candy and gum and pop wouldn't be a bad thing to have on his first night on the town.

"I see someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Lily said, smirking at the Mind Caster. She was actually relieved to see something other than the pained expression she usually wore at school, all those kids crammed into one space, Lily wasn't sure how she survived at all. "And you know perfectly well I'm only blind in normal time." She finished quietly, not really bothering to shout, Erika could just read her mind anyways. Not long after the exchange between the two, Jason walked in.. after his ritual that is. Lily gave him a small smile, pitying his state, to which Erika made a gagging sound, and looked like she wanted to spit, the combination of pity and embarrassment apparently not a tasty one. They were still waiting on one more person. And Lily contemplated leaving without them. Being an acrobat, they could just leap there pretty quickly, the snake pit wasn't too far away. Sighing, Lily realized the danger of going into the pit all by yourself, and quickly threw the idea aside. After five minutes, however, she began to get impatient, pacing around the meeting place. The stillness of the blue time was almost eerie, and Lily peeked outside to see if anything big was going on. The streets were practically dead, though she thought she spotted a flying slither in the distance. She turned to the Polymath, and asked him if this day was of any significance. The boy finally added up all the numbers, and concluded that this was one of those irrelevant days, not good for either Midnighter or Darkling. Another glimpse outside gave Lily the chills, a shadow moved, too fast for even her Seers vision to catch. She quickly turned to Erika, her expression worried. Without a single word being exchanged, the Mind Caster nodded, confirming Lily's fears: Something big was out there. Swearing under her breath, the Seer gathered her things, looking to the other two. "Snake pit might have to wait guys.. looks like we have company." By the time they got weaponized, Erika tasted something strange, something that made her stand upright, and blink hard. "Whats going on?" Lily asked her as she re-laced her boots. "There's someone out there.." she said, a blank expression on her face, "Another Midnighter." ----------------------------------------- "You are sure the Darkling is headed over there?" Lily asked Erika for the millionth time. "Yes bat brain, a big, old, panther darkling is following our new Midnighter." Erika told her, sarcasm dripping off her words. Another curse escaped the even-tempered Seer, this night was not going according to plan. After a quick discussion, the three of them decided to leave the meeting place, trusting the Acrobat would be able to fend for themselves. They were all pretty trained on how to handle things in the blue time anyways. But some fresh meat had a big problem after them, and they had no idea what to do. "We have to make it there." Lily said, more to convince her feet to keep running, than for anyone else's sake. She looked up to the dark, blue shadowed moon that cast it's eerie light over the town, and fear came to her heart. The blue time was half way over. How could they find, and explain everything to this new guy in one night? Lily pushed the thoughts out of her head, their first concern: Keep new kid alive. OOC: sorry for the bits of controll there. Don't like it message me. I'll be gone almost all day Sat. so I won't get back to you till then. Feel free to post though

Jason ran down the street after Lily, his footsteps light and his body quick. And the whole time, thoughts were flying through his head. Incantations, tridecalogisms, math equations...his mind was literally abuzz with ideas. It was the hypersensitivity the blue time brought with it. He could use his amazing mental prowess in the day time, but it was during the blue time that he really shone. He became a genius, a true genius, during that magic hour. And he was working himself ragged on this problem.
A new Midnighter. The odds of a new Midnighter, after so long with just the four of them, coming on this night of all nights....was astronomical. In the tens of thousands against. And he had done the math...this day was no different from any other. It was actually quite normal. The 217th day of the year, fourteen days from the new moon, the leap year wasn't even close....there was nothing there in the numbers of it that made any sense. And he was fairly sure there was nothing in the Lore about it either. At least, what he understood from what Lily had told them all. Of course, he couldn't read the Lore himself, but she had told them enough, and he knew this was an unexpected event. New Midnighters that DIDN'T appear on a new moon, or on a day that was a multiple of 13.... It was unheard of.
He yelled out to Lily as they ran down the street. "Lily! Odds are 300 to 1 that we can beat whatever's following this new Midnighter. If you gave me a better estimate on size and age, I'd give you a closer number. We are missing our Acrobat, and that is a serious disadvantage."
Swiftly, he flexed Purposelessly Incorruptible Dependability, his hand fitting perfectly inside the stainless steel gauntlet. This was going to get ugly, and he'd need some serious tridecalogisms to fight whatever was up ahead. If the thing was even half as big as expected, that meant it was pretty damn old, and pretty damn strong. And they were missing the Acrobat. No instant getaway there. Sighing even as he ran, he pulled out Longiloquence and twirled it a few times to wrap it tight around his free fist. This was not going to be a pretty fight.
He glanced up the street. "127 meters and closing. ETA, 29 seconds. Ready, girls?"

'Shut it you retarded calculator,' Was all Erika said as she held her own weapon Conscientious Intentionally Machiavellian, the three sectioned staff in one hand and her Mirror, Incorruptible in the other. Emotions were running wild fear, anxiety and battle lust the combination made her want to vomit as bile rose in her throat but Erika swallowed the bile and focused on what was to come. Under her breath she cursed her own ability wishing not for hte first time that she had been given a different power but at the same time she was glad for it. Her power had saved her from more htne one bad decision in life where she had been forewarned about a particular persons intentions.
her senses were focused right now on the enemy ahead and the location of the newest midnighter, things were about to get sticky and in truth she relished hte idea. When it came ot fighting there was nothnig else, no thought, no emotion justfighting it was a mindless haze with only the aftermath of pain sickness, dispair and a sense of victory for the winner. She'd be sick after this was over but everything had its good and bad points.

With his flashlight in hand and on, direccting a large, spread out beam of light, Alex went down to the local drug store and found that the situation was about the same there. He was a little worried about cameras, but the guy working the counter looked just like his mother did, so that worry went away. They wouldn't know who he was, anyway. Quickly Alex went through to the back and grabbed a six-pack of coke, which he found to be mildly warm, even though it came out of the freezer. After that he looked around the snack isle and picked up some gum and the like. Nothing too important. Then he simply left with his 'purchase'.
The night was his, and the moon looked cool, so once again he set out, this time simply wandering the night, looking into people's houses and whatnot.

Erika saw him first guided by her power she saw the new midnighter walking casualt around with a sixpack of coke in hand a flahslight in hte other. But she didn't have time to contemplate anything more as she sighted the panther Darkling. 'Look out!' she yelled hand adjusting the grip of her mirror. The Panther Darkling Hissed as it turned its blakc head at her but Erika wasn't intimidated it crouched to lunge just as she lifted her mirror with the hand that had the ring and spoke in tandum. 'Resplendently, Incorruptible!' Both ring and mirror blazed together causing the attacking panther to cringe and slink away though it didn't run it circled around. Erika swore as she followed the slinking creatuere and didn't look over her shoulder to the new Midnighter. 'Help or run wonder boy but choose fast because I CAN't keep this thing distracted for fucking ever!' then she derected her next words to the others. 'Any fucking time you two would care ot give me a damn hand would be nice!'

Alexander spun around, caught offgaurd by the voice. He thought he was the only thing that was unfrozen. His shone his flashlight over at the sound, and illuminated three people and what looked like a panther, which quickly hissed in the dim light that was caused by the wide beam. Without waiting a second more, the darkling ran like a bat out of Hell, leaving the four as they were: confused.
Alex looked at them, then at the stuff in his hand, and quickly dropped the coke. "I paid for this stuff fair and square." He lied, backing away slowly. "So you can just... turn around now and... go abck to where you came form!" Alex quickly spun around and run off into the semi-darkness, turning off his flashlight right after checking the time on his watch: 12:33.

The whole dash to the conveniance store was a blurr. Lily's mind was racing, her stomach in knots. Lily never had a chance to look at the new one, her focus was on the panther darkling that was older, and more maniacal than anything she had seen in the blue time. Of course the Lore spoke of these creatures, and Erika sometimes told her she sensed them, deep in the desert, in hiding from the world, but seeing one was still a shock.Erika dashed forward in an act of desperate bravery, and it was then that Lily's attention shifted.
What she saw nearly gave her a heart attack. The kid had a flashlight... and it was working. "Not possible!" she whispered, her focus not even on that of the new darkling. She blinked, and attempted to rub better focus to her eyes on the off chance that she had misseen something.. But there was no denying it, with her Seers vision she saw perfectly the blinding light the electronic device was putting forth.
She heard a hiss, and a few seconds later there was a cry of pain, and quick retreating footsteps, ones that could only belong to a panther. They stopped suddenly, and Lily figured the Darkling must have changed forms and flown off, without their acrobat present they couldn't quite follow.
Lily could barely look at the boy, the flashlights light was dim, but it pained her eyes to look at it, and she nearly shouted when the boy swept the light over the three of them. "Shut it off!" she finally called, but the boy didn't answer. After years of the blue time, she often couldn't stand bright lights, sunglasses were a must in her case, perscription ones of course, as they were for most of the other Midnighters, the ones who had been here for long enough.
As she stood with the Midnighters beside her, the boy dropped what was in his hands, some pop and candy it looked like. "I paid for this stuff fair and square." He shouted, but of course they all knew it wasn't possible. Lily looked to Erika who confirmed the thought, and Lily squinted, looking at the boy, trying to see past the dim light coming from that astonishly working flashlight. The focus clung to him, and it was definately the focus of a Midnighter. Lily didn't know whether to be relieved, or scared, the new Midnighter was causing more of a stirr on his first night than the four others had caused in all their years of being in the secret hour.
"So you can just... turn around now and... go back to where you came from!" He called, running off into the darkness, finally shutting off his light. Jason looked ready to run after him, but Lily stopped them both. "Let Erika track him, find out where he lives.. We'll approach him in the daylight, when he feels more comfortable and less out of his element. He'll wake up probably thinking this is a dream anyways. He needs a few more nights until he's fully convinced." The two weren't sure about this, but Lily convinced them that it would be the best way to get to know where he lives, and getting to know him without him being on guard all the time, and making them the enemies.
So the three followed behind him, fully aware the acrobat would be upset at having missed all this, but it was no matter, they couldn't wait for them anyways. At 12:45 the boy entered a house, and Erika confirmed it was his. "His father died." She said, and Lily shivered, the power to simply read houses and places was one she had never gotten used to. "They just moved here." The Mind Caster said, with certainty that came from years of reading people and places. Lily nodded, and was slightly disappointed that he lived so far into town, quite a ways from her own house on the outskirts. After a few minutes they decided to head home, nothing more they could do tonight.
After parting with Erika, who was to keep watch over the kid as she walked back to her house, Lily and Jason headed to their neighborhood, living only a few blocks away from eachother. "Does it add up?" She asked of the Polymath, and he shook his head. Lily frowned, but nodded, knowing he would crack the code eventually, he always did. "Whats this new project you're working on?" She spoke quietly, her eyes always focused on the land. "If it makes you feel better... I havn't read anything about a flashlight weilder in the lore." Lily smirked a little, looking to the Polymath. After so many walks home, the two had a certain bond, a respect for one another, realizing that the Lore was nothing without math, and Jasons calculations meant nothing without a knowledge of history, something that gave them plenty to talk about on these strolls.
Tonight, however, was different. They were so caught up in the events, the math, the lack of mention in the Lore, that they were stunned to silence, and the end of the blue time startled them both. It was always weird, having the wind just suddenly start up after finally getting used to the silence. A cricket was in mid chirp near by, and even that slight noise startled Lily. The two weren't even half way home yet. It took them an hour of walking before they reached Jasons block, and Lily nodded her head, waving goodbye to him. She hugged her arms around her, the wind chilling her slightly. It was no matter though, she was home ten minutes later.
Sneaking in had gotten easier with practice, and Lily's father was probably already passed out in front of the television by now. If she really wanted, she could walk right in to the old house, and her dad wouldn't even say a word. Lily reminded herself it was better that way, dealing with parents was a constant pain in a Midnighters ass. She slipped her shoes off, and changed into some old flannel pajama bottums, and a cami, getting comfortable under the blankets and falling asleep soon after.
------------------------------
Bixby had only one high school. Either public school, or homeschool, and that was about all your choices unless you wanted to commute to the nearby town of Broken Arrow. Lily hoped that their new Midnighter friend would be attending today, and that she hadn't made a mistake in chosing to wait. Sitting outside of the Polymaths house, she honked the horn of her old car, telling him to hurry up. It took him a long time to get ready sometimes, his rituals eating up alot of precious minutes. On a day like today, being late was not an option. When he finally got into her car, Lily once again wondered at how he could even stand sitting in the old thing. She thought about the millions of rituals he might perform before getting in, but strangely, she had never seen him do one in her car.
Lily sped off towards school, knowing Erika would be in the parking lot, as always, waiting for the first bell to ring before entering the hell hole that was Bixby High. It took the Polymath and Seer 15 minutes to get to school, but Lily was speeding, shaving off at least 7 minutes from the usual time. She tore into the parking lot, finding a place near the end quickly, and spotted Erika. Cutting the engine and grabbing her messenger bag, Lily stepped out of the car, baggy black pants and a black tank top her chosen garb for the day. Her hair was loose, reaching her shoulders in straight layers, her bangs constantly falling over her eyes, and smelled of lilacs, as it always did. The two Midnighters crossed the parking lot to the Mind Caster, and nodded in greeting, too busy thinking about todays mission to bother with formalities. There was a large crowd heading into school, and the three followed, Erika and Jason heading to their normal classrooms, but Lily took a slightly different path... the one to the office.
It took some convincing, but in the end, the dowdy old secretary finally gave her the job, and then all that was left was to wait. This morning had been a mad rush of calls and internet searches on who owned the house that they had followed the new Midnighter to last night. Luckily, Lily was used to digging through records, and in the end she finally found them, a plan hatching in her mind. She nervously bounced her legs, sitting in an uncomfortable office chair, biting her chipped nails. Five minutes later he walked in. He didn't notice her, as she was seated in the darker corner of the room, out of his line of sight when first entering the main office. This was, of course, part of her plan.
"I'm Alexander Wolfe." He spoke to the same secretary, and she smiled, beaming with good old Bixby hospitality. "Hello son, we've set up a guide for you! She's right back there, go on now!"
He walked towards her, still not recognising her, and Lily thanked her chunky frames for that. Finally, she stood, and put out her hand, a half smile, half smirk on her face, trying her best to be friendly. "Hi, I'm Lily. Welcome to Bixby."

(OOC: Thank you De for writing a many-paragraph post! I jsut used it to get through 30 problems of math homeowkr! ^^)
Alexander looked the girl up and down once. Wow, she's cute, he thought, switching into the msot charming mode he could muster. With a smile he shook her hand. "Thanks a lot, Lilly was it? Not a bad name, not at all. Plenty more boring, like Fran, for example." He said to her, in a metsopiant (Semi-quiet) voice. Then to top it off, Alex gave a small wink, to fill the charm. Then he released her hand, and continued. "From what I've seen of the place so far, it looks like I'll really like it here." You dog, you. "But, can you help me find my first class? It's in A209."
The whole night before was a blur. His mother had said that she and he were havving a 'discussion', and then when she looked down at the dishes he vanished within a coupple seconds. He remembered talking with her, but then all he knew was a dream; the whole thing fuzzy at that. He didn't even remember going upstairs, and it sure wasn't like him to run from an argument. The whole thing was very strange. But it was over now; no problems lasted long between him and his mother, because they needed eachotehr; they really did.
If only I could find out what kept making my pocketwatch go an hour ahead every day, Alex thought as he pulled it out. "It looks like we'll be late for our first classes. Damn."

Lily squinted from behind her glasses, everything around her in perfect 20/20 vision but the boy, who was completely out of focus. She quickly slipped her glasses from her face, shoving them into one of the large pockets of her pants. This was definately a Midnighter that stood before her. Around her, everything was blurry, her vision so bad she could barely make out the secretary a yard away. Alexander Wolfe stood, shaking her hand, the only thing around her that was perfectly in place, the only thing that was in impeccible focus. She smiled as he put on the charm, feeling slightly out of place, not used to that kind of attention. At her school, she was considered an outcast, her black attire and "I have the weight of the world on my shoulders" attitude enough to send her into social hell. It's not like she minded though, stiffs (aka daylighters, or normal people) were boring to her anyways.
She quickly lead him to the hallways, slipping her glasses back on so she didn't crash into anything. He obviously didn't remember her, which is how she wanted it. She turned to him, trying not to make it obvious that she couldn't see his features at all. "It's okay, your first period is just study hall anyways." She shrugged, lying through her teeth, but she pulled it off effortlessly and undetectably. She spoke casually, giving him a little bit of a tour, showing him where his locker was, et cetera. She took him to a deserted hallway, sitting down on the floor. "We've got some time to kill." She stated, and patted the floor next to her. When he finally obliged, she pulled her specs off once more, setting them in her lap.
"You should make it fine in Bixby if you follow a few rules." She started. "One: don't stay out after 10. The place is crawling with cops, and they have this stick up their ass about the whole curfew thing. Repeat offenders have been known to spend the night in jail even. Two," Lily held up two fingers, adding to her point, "Stay away from the snake pit at Midnight. Technically it's in Broken Arrow, but some weird stuff goes on out there.. They found the old Sherrifs badge, fillings, and gun holster out there.. So stay away. And finally, Three: Don't drink the water. It tastes funny, and gives you really weird dreams..." Lily looked to him, her eyes catching his, trying to get him to make a connection.
"These dreams are super real too..." She gave him a moment to think, fidgeting with her hands before finally getting around to it. "So speaking of, had any weird dreams lately?" She looked to him once more, her expression looking like the answer to the question was a life or death thing, like her whole existance clung to it.

Erika took her usual seat at the very back of the room for Math’s and got straight down into doing her work. If she could focused on that to the point where it was mind numbing she might not throw up or go crazy with all the intruding voices in her head. True she was used to it from having lived with it all her life but there were times when she wished she could have been normal. Just for a day even, no voices in her head but her own no bitter taste in her mouth from the emotionally highs her fellow students had.
She worked hard on her work already some two chapters ahead of the rest of the class because she worked her mind into numbness with the equations. People had learnt early on that they did not under any circumstances approach, talk to or even dare touch her unless they wanted a broken nose. Being touched was the worse though... it was just beyond words to describe really and she hopped today would go without her being brushed by someone in the halls as they rushed out for lunch. Better to wait until the halls were almost empty before leaving. It would save her a lot of anguish later on.
Often though it didn’t work and it didn’t help that she could hear both the verbal drivel of her classmates and their mental thoughts. Those secret thoughts that should remain secret but were hers to hear.
She knew peoples darkest secrets and their greatest fears and loves. She knew several boys fancied the math teacher Miss Meadow, who was despite being in her late twenties a rather attractive woman by anyone’s standards. One student in particular she knew liked to fantasize about Miss meadow and that was not something she needed nor wished to know, but she did.
Finally she had enough of listening with both pairs of ears so she slipped the headphones on her IPod on and started to play her music. It was wordless Electronica, the kind of stuff people liked to dance to but Erika liked it simply because it could drown out the verbal words of others. It didn’t stop her hearing their thoughts but it helped. Returning to her work she bobbed her head to the music and continued to work on a particular algebraic sequence that was starting to irritate her when she was distracted by a familiar thought pattern.
Wow, she's cute…. The thought came with the tail end taste of something she associated with all males when centered on a girl they found to their liking. Prying a little more deeply now that she had a snag on the mental trail Erika followed it and found the focus of the thought to be much to her amusement Lily. Well, well ,well… won’t this make Lily laugh. Erika smothered a laugh as she realized the mind she was looking at belonged to the prat with the flashlight. Oh this is going to be good…
You dog, you… Oh the arrogance of it! This guy was obviously believing he was some kind of Casanova. Normally she wouldn’t be able to do this but something about the minds of Midnighters drew her ‘other set of ears’ as she liked to call them. Unlike the Daylighters, of course there was other things she could do with Daylighter minds if she wanted but there was too much risk and lily had made it perfectly clear that doing that would not be a very nice thing at all even if they were asking for it. If only I could find out what kept making my pocketwatch go an hour ahead every day… Oh I know the reason Alex even if you don’t, Erika thought. To herself as she chewed on the end of her pen. Listennig in on Alex’s thoughts took all her attention to anyone else it just looked like she was thinking. At least not yet. But the real question is will you accept the truth or run away from it? Erika gave a mental shrug and waited for the first chance she had to tell Lily what Alex thought about when he looked at her. If she didn’t scream at everyone to shut up first and head home before school finished. Today was already turning out into one of those days where she couldn’t stand being in the school grounds with all the mindless thoughts, rampant emotions and just sheer craziness of it all. It was a surprise she hadn’t become insane from it… or maybe she already was in her own eccentric way. Erika smiled at that thought. Maybe she was a touch insane…

Well, isn't see invasive? Dreams... well, I suppose.... Alex tried to bring it back to him.He had had a realistic dream... but he couldn't remember it. And he doubted he'd had any of the town's water... It was all a blur, though. "Acctually, I think I did. But I don't remember drinking any water in the time I've been here." Alexander looked puzzled.
But that doesn't mean... Oh what am I thinking, I don't drink water! "But I don't think it was all that great; I can hardly remember it." Alex looked the girl in the eyes, giving her a smile that said 'I really have no idea, but if you'd like to hang out more I'll be happy to.' She really is pretty cute.
